You can most easily show your support for GaLTT's goals by becoming a member of the Society. Your membership fee will be put to good use in preserving land and trails for public access and promoting environmental protection of land in the Gabriola Islands Trust area. GaLTT is a registered charitable society and issues tax receipts for any donation $20 and over, including membership fees.
Members receive personal email notification of our activities if they wish, and may attend our monthly board meetings. These are usually held every second Tuesday in the month, at 7pm in Gabriola Arts & Heritage Centre (the old Women's Institute Hall). Members assist us in our long-range planning and can vote at our AGM.
Annual membership fees
Community group: $60
Five-year membership fees
Communty group: $250
You may also choose to "work off" your individual or family annual membership fee by pledging to volunteer for 24 hours accumulated annual logged time on our twice-monthly work crews—that's just an hour every other Sunday afternoon.
Download a print-friendly membership form and send it with your cheque to the address on the form. If you wish, you will be added to our email list. The form may also be used to make a donation and/or to volunteer.
If you wish, instead of paying an annual membership fee, you may arrange to make regular monthly donations by automatic bank transfer from any major Canadian banking organization to GaLTT's account at the Gabriola branch of Coastal Community Credit Union. Monthly donations may be as lttle as $5, so you hardly notice them, but once set up, they are easier for us to administer and save you the hassle of remembering to renew.
If you prefer to use your credit card or to remain anonymous, you may donate online through CanadaHelps. The monthly amount may be changed or canceled at any time. A single annual charitable tax receipt is issued.
Many prefer to give and receive gifts that benefit our community rather than increasing the clutter in our lives. Why not buy someone a one-year membership in GaLTT? Email Heather Kay to arrange this.
Individual membership: You pay $30 for the gift and recieve a charitable tax receipt for $20. The recipient will get a one-year membership in GaLTT, a copy of our beautiful trail map, a certificate for a free guided trail walk, our brochure, and a gift card. We will even gift-wrap the package for you!
Family membership: You pay $40, and receive a charitable tax receipt for $25. The recipient gets a GaLTT one-year family membership and two trail maps, plus all the other goodies listed above.
There are many ways to volunteer for GaLTT. You can:
Help to develop and maintain trails, and to remove invasive plants from public areas. To join our work parties contact Rob Brockley by email.
Remove invasive plants from your own property.
Help manage the GaLTT information table one Saturday morning (10am to noon) at Gabriola's summer Farmers' Market at AGI Hall. It is held throughout the summer until Thanksgiving weekend. To do this contact Kerry Marcus by email.
Canvas new members, spreading the word about what we do.
Fund-raise—whether it's five dollars or five thousand, all our donations are put to good use, and we are a registered Society, so the donor gets a charitable tax-relief receipt for donations of $20 or more.
Share your expertise about Gabriola's natural environment by offering workshops or writing articles for our brochures, newsletter, or website.
