Gabriola Land and Trails Trust at the Farmer’s Market
GaLTT has once again signed up for a table at the Agi Hall Farmer's Market from the May long weekend to Thanksgiving and we are once again looking for volunteers from our membership to help work at the table once or twice during these months. The Market is open from 10am until noon on Saturdays and the time commitment per week would be about 3 hours with the setting up of our table and packing things away afterwards.
This year we have no major fundraiser to advertise this year, however our efforts at the market last year were so positive for keeping our organization out in public where we can:
- explain our goals, and the work that we have done since our inception 4 years ago
- hear from members and the general public about their thoughts and feelings about GaLTT’s work to date and what else they might like to see the organization doing.
- sell and renew memberships. Last summer we brought in new members almost every week.
- sell our 2007 revised trail maps, talk about present and future possibilities for trails on the island and help promote responsible tails use.
- sell our cards of island scenes and of the quilt panels from last year's raffle
- sell our T-shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies and vests
- talk to people about conservation and how we can protect the natural environment of our island, while maintaining safe public access to some of our wooded areas and to our beaches.
We will have some informative materials on hand from the Land Trust Alliance of BC, of which GaLTT is a member, as well as the Nanaimo Area Land Trust.
We need volunteers for the following dates: May 19, 26. June 2, 9, 16, 23, 30. July 7,14, 21, 28. August 4, 11, 18, 25. Sept 1, 8, 15, 22, 29. October 3, 10. We are most grateful to everyone who helped out last year and we think everyone had a good time meeting the public and supporting our organization.
If you can volunteer your time on one or two of these dates, please contact
Carol Boyce by phone at 247-7895 or by EMail at scboyce@shaw.ca or
Dyan Dunsmoor-Farley at 247-9779 or ddfarley@shaw.ca
and we will schedule you in. We always try to pair a new volunteer with someone who has done this before, but if you want to bring a friend with you, we will make sure there is someone at the market when you start to explain the ropes to you.
Last summer was very successful in terms of sales. We raised $4,000 with the quilt raffle and several hundred dollars on sales of merchandise and cards. But the most important benefit for GaLTT was outreach to the public and attracting new members.
